Do not smoke or ingest nicotine for four weeks before and after surgery as smoking can delay healing. Smoking may also cause complications such as skin loss and scarring. Additionally, Nicorette gum and nicotine patches cannot be used as they release a harmful vasoconstrictor which can interfere with normal blood flow.
Medications, Vitamins & Supplements
Avoid dietary supplements, herbs, and mixing herbal medications for at least 1 week before surgery.
If you are taking Isotretinoin (Roaccutane) for acne, stop the medication for at least 12 months prior to surgery as it may affect wound healing and could result in scarring.
Some supplements and medications such as Vitamin E, Ginko, and anticoagulants (Warfarin, Plavix, aspirin or aspirin-containing medications) must be stopped at least 2 weeks prior to surgery.
For body surgery patients avoid having a spray tan 2-3 days prior to surgery.
For face surgery patients it's not recommended to have any botox or fillers 6 months prior to the operation.
