Liposuction
Liposuction is a procedure designed to improve the body contour. It is not a weight loss procedure. Your body figure will change significantly after liposuction even if your weight only changes minimally. It is a procedure of choice when you would like to reduce the localized fat deposit or would like to improve your body figure at the weight you are at.
The procedure will be done via a few small incisions at each body region. Each incision is approximately 5 mm in length. It normally heals very well and does not leave noticeable scar. Liposuction will remove the fat deposit under the skin. The skin will then need to shrink by its natural elasticity. I encourage you to wear a compression garment 24/7 for a month after the surgery to facilitate this skin contraction.
I prefer to do liposuction under general anesthesia to make sure you do not feel any pain during the surgery. You will be admitted overnight in the hospital after the surgery. All of the stitches will be self-dissolving under the skin and do not need to be removed after the surgery. You will be able to do light activity right after the surgery. You can restart on light exercise at 2 weeks after the surgery. You can then gradually increase the exercise intensity every few days. Most patients can get back to their normal exercise routine at 4-6 weeks after the surgery. If you come from overseas, please plan to stay in Thailand at least 7 days after the surgery for recovery and postoperative care.
